Psoriasis Diagnosis | How to Diagnose Psoriasis?
Psoriasis Diagnosis.
Psoriasis is a chronic disease that causes patches with red scabs on the skin. People with psoriasis produce new skin cells at a very fast rate. Excess cells migrate to the surface of the skin but fail to detach and instead create characteristic squamous lesions.

Psoriasis can also affect the joints, it usually starts in the joints of the fingers and toes. Psoriasis has no known cause, but is thought to be hereditary.
Although the lesions can appear on any part of the body, the scalp, knees, elbows and trunk are most commonly affected.
How to recognize symptoms.
Initial or mild symptoms may go undetected or confused with dandruff or an allergic reaction.
Psoriasis lesions are red patches with well-defined borders with a squamous surface.
Physical exam.
Psoriasis is diagnosed by a physical examination of skin lesions.
There is no blood or laboratory test to diagnose psoriasis. But, a blood test is able to differentiate psoriasis from rheumatoid arthritis.
A microscopic analysis of a sample of psoriatic skin shows thick, red, and scaly cells with no sign of inflammation.
Treatment!
Topical corticosteroid creams and ointments are effective in treating mild outbreaks. Keep the skin moisturized to control the itching that accompanies psoriasis outbreaks.
Cold compresses, cold showers, antihistamines and topical corticosteroids help to relieve the discomfort of the outbreaks.
Phototherapy, which is treatment with ultraviolet light (UV) and excimer B lasers, is also effective in cleansing skin lesions.
More serious outbreaks may require medications such as methotrexate, cyclosporine, inhibitors, such as etanercept (Enbrel) and infliximab (Remicade). And they can be associated with side effects that include tuberculosis and other infections.
