Psoriasis is a chronic disease of the skin, in which the body continues to produce skin cells. These skin cells accumulate beneath the upper dermis creating red, inflamed protrusions in the superficial layer. Psoriasis can affect any part of the body, and is commonly followed by itching and pain.

There are things you can do at home that will help treat inflammation, itchiness and scales of psoriasis.

The daily bathroom.

Bathing in a bubbling and hot tub for 15 minutes will help you not only to keep your body and pores clean but also to remove the scales and reduce the itching and inflammation associated with psoriasis.

It is recommended to take a daily bath and infuse the tub with 1/2 cup of sea salt, colloidal oatmeal or bath oils.

Caution: Avoid hot bathing as this can damage the skin. The warm water is the best.

Sunlight.

Sunbathing for brief periods is another method of treating psoriasis especially when it is on the scalp. Not more than 15 minutes since excess sunshine can worsen psoriasis.

Apply a little sunscreen with an SPF of not less than 15. Moisturizing lotion is another good treatment for psoriasis, you can double it using a moisturizing sunscreen, usually found in grocery stores and pharmacies.

Moisturizers.

Ointment used for skin conditioning may also help with psoriasis. If you are using the daily baths, it is good that it does not dry completely, keep the skin slightly moist and then apply a good dose of oil-based ointment conditioner. This will prevent your skin from becoming dry.

In dry climates, be sure to apply the ointment or lotion a few times a day to keep your skin moist. You can also apply the oil at night before going to bed.

It may sound strange, but if you wrap the affected area in a plastic wrap at night, you will be able to remove the scales with a shower or bath in the morning.
